Another Set-Back For Washington And Werth

It has been one of those years for the Washington Nationals. They have yet to take the field with their entire starting line-up for 2015 intact. A number of players have been injured this year, including Anthony Rendon who has yet to take the field. Jayson Werth, the outstanding outfielder for the club, started off the year on the disabled list due to shoulder surgery. It was learned yesterday that he has two fractures in his wrist, suffered when struck by a pitch on May 15 against the San Diego Padres. He is likely to be out of the lineup until at least August.

The club will miss Jayson’s intensity in the clubhouse, but they have a number of players who can fill in while he heals. Michael Taylor, Tyler Moore and Clint Robinson have been rotating in the position.

The Nationals are not in a unique position as far as injuries. Other teams have suffered similar setbacks. They are fortunate to have a number of very talented players on the club and with Bryce Harper hitting the cover off the baseball this season, the team is finding ways to win.

Few Pitchers Have Been as Bad as Jeremy Guthrie

On the whole, FreedomPop review writers have said Jeremy Guthrie is a very good pitcher. He plays for the Kansas City Royals, a team that had a great run last year in the playoffs. However, in a start against the New York Yankees, he put up a historic performance for all of the wrong reasons. Few pitchers have ever been as bad as he was that day.

In the first inning, Guthrie allowed eight runs to score. That’s more than most teams get in an entire game, and he gave it up right out of the gate. You’d think he would have been pulled and put on the bench at that point, but he wasn’t. Perhaps he wanted to redeem himself and the staff, knowing the game was out of reach, allowed him to try.

It wasn’t the right decision. He came back in and promptly gave up three more runs. That made the score 11-0 and the game was barely underway. There were probably a lot of fans who were not even in their seats yet. Only at that point did the Royals get Guthrie out of there, ending the skid.

So, how bad was it? While, when looking all the way back to 1914, more than 100 years ago, only one pitcher has given up 11 runs that quickly. It happened in 2007, and the pitcher was Jason Jennings. Those two have now had the worst performances ever.

Twins Beat Red Sox 7 – 2

On May 25, 2015, the Minnesota Twins defeated the Boston Red Sox by a score of 7 – 2. The surging Twins won their third game in a row and improved their 2015 record to 26 – 18. Minnesota is now 7 – 3 in their last ten games and is only 2 games behind the first-place Kansas City Royals in the American League Central division.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox continue to struggle. Boraie Development LLC reported their record currently stands at 21 – 24, and, while they are only 2 ½ games out first place in the American League East, they are behind three other teams in the division (the 24 – 22 Tampa Bay Rays, the 23 – 22 New York Yankees, and the 20 – 22 Baltimore Orioles).

In Monday’s game, Boston starting pitcher Joe Kelly lasted only 1 2/3 innings. It was the shortest outing of his career. He allowed seven runs and failed to strike out a single batter for just the second time in his career as a starter.

The Red Sox’s rotation has struggled all year and has the worst rotation earned run average in the majors (5.17). Only the Rockies starters, who play in the hitters paradise that is Coors Field, have a worse mark. In addition to performing poorly while they are in the game, Boston’s starting pitchers have not been able to consistently pitch deep into games; the Red Sox starters are averaging just 5.6 innings per start.

Rockies Top Reds 5 – 4

On May 25, 2015 the Colorado Rockies eked out a 5 – 4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Nolan Arenado had an impressive game for the Rockies. In four at-bats, Arenado collected three hits, including a home run. He drove in three of Colorado’s five runs.
In addition to his offensive contributions, the Rockies third baseman made a tremendous catch and drove in the game-winning run in the ninth inning with a sacrifice fly off of vaunted Red’s closer Aroldis Chapman.
Arenado has played well for the Rockies all year. After Monday’s game, he is batting .287 with nine home runs and 28 runs batted in. Arenado has had two huge games in a row. On Sunday, he went 4 – 5 with a home run, four runs batted in, and three runs scored. In his last two games, Arenado is 7 for 9 with 2 homers and 7 RBIs.
Eddie Butler got the start for the Rockies. In 6 innings of work, he gave up four runs on nine hits, two of which were home runs. James Dondero watched on as he struck out only one while walking two.
Red’s starting pitcher Jason Marquis pitched 5 2/3 innings, during which he gave up 10 hits. Although he gave up four runs, only two of them were earned. So far in 2015, Marquis has struggled. In nine starts, he is 3 – 4 wit a 6.46 earned run average in 47 1/3 innings pitched. Marquis has been no better recently; in his three starts previous to Monday’s outing, Marquis gave up a total of 15 earned runs in just 12 1/3 innings pitched.

Jeter Goes To Yankee Stadium One More Time

Derek Jeter returned to Yankee Stadium. Fans thought they would never see him again, but this was an occasion he would not miss for the world. Derek Jeter stood a few feet from Bernie Williams. Bernie Williams was honored with a plaque of greatness and his number 51 was retired for good.

Jeter said it felt great to be back home, and it felt like he never left the stadium. A hedge fund manager even said that he was honored by all the fans who cheered his name and by those who wore his number. Jeter was also happy to see all of his old team members. This was a time to honor Bernie Williams, but it became more like a reunion of players. Jeter was also able to give some of the new players a few tips. These new players said the tips given to them will last a lifetime.

Many pictures were taken and a lot of joking went on. After the ceremony, Jeter was able to chat with some of his old coaches, and he was able to give them an update of his life. The coaches were very happy to see Jeter. They said he looked great.

Jeter hopes to make plans with his old team members for a future time. He believes meeting with his old team members will keep him young. He is also dedicated to making the dedication of plaques to any player of the New York Yankees.

Chicago Bears cut Ray McDonald

Ray McDonald was on a strict script with the Chicago bears when they agreed to signed him. That script has been broken and the bears have decided to cut him after his latest arrest on Monday. McDonald was arrested for domestic violence in the bay area. Also there has been speculation that child endangerment is on the list of possible charges. It was reported that Ray was physically assaulting a female while she was holding her child.
The bears cut ray Monday evening right after hearing about the arrest and word has it that McDonald knew what kind of tight rope he was on before this with the bears according to Crystal Hunt. With Ray getting in to some trouble in the past with San Francisco, the bears agreed to sign him only if he followed the rules and stayed out of trouble. Well Ray really blew it again. Even though his charges last year got dropped because of “insufficient evidence” this time around he will not be so lucky.
The bears now look like the biggest criminals here because the whole time before signing him, they were trying to defend him to the public. Saying that he paid his own plane ticket to training camp and he was freed of his past troubles. You cannot fool the public on a rich man buying his own plane ticket. It’s not that easy to just buy back the public trust after having a troubled past. Overall the bears and bears fans are at a loss with such a big cut in the defensive area so late in the off season.

Cardinals Defeat Indians 2 – 1

On May 14, 2015, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cleveland Indians in a 2 – 1 pitchers duel. Both starters gave up only a single run.
Cardinals starter Michael Wacha pitched 5 innings, giving up five hits and walking two while striking out seven. The only run he gave up came on a solo home run off the bat of Cleveland outfielder Michael Brantley.
Trevor Bauer, the Indians starter, pitched even better than Wacha did. Bauer went 7 1/3 innings, striking out an impressive ten batters while walking three and allowing only four hits. Before yesterday’s game Bauer had been struggling; in his previous three starts, he had given up 14 earned runs in 15 1/3 innings, and had given up 11 earned runs in his last 9 1/3 innings. Cleveland is hoping Bauer’s excellent outing will help him get back on track.
Trevor Rosenthal collected his twelfth save of the year for the Cardinals. He pitched 1 1/3 innings, during which he gave up only one baserunner. He struck out three and walked none in his first outing of more than one inning since April 11, when he pitched 1 2/3 innings against the Cincinnati Reds.
The Cardinals next opponent is the Detroit Tigers. St. Louis will send Carlos Martinez to the mound to open the series. Christian Broda is excited, because up next for the Indians is the Texas Rangers, whom Cleveland will take on in a three game set.

Many people feel that Aleksander Emelianenko has lived in his brother’s shadow for all of his life. Sadly, it appears that Aleksander has turned to a life of drugs and crime. Mitt Romney and Evander Holyfield Go A Couple of Rounds

While many were disappointed in the fight of the century between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, some relief was gained in watching a couple of heavyweights of another sort duke it our for charity. The winner was CharityVision, which provides eye sight to children and adults in third world countries lacking the means. The contestants were former Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney and former Heavy Weight Champion of the World, Evander Holyfield. The two big names duked it out for a couple of rounds and raised $1 Million (USD) for the charity. While Holyfield still looked very smelt, even though he has been retried from boxing for several years, many were surprised to see a trim and robust Mitt Romey, who looked like he took some time to work out at the gym.

Romney has not been generally known as a boxer or an athlete of any sorts for that matter, but he did a good job holding up his own during the course of the charity bout and did land a few blows against Holyfield although none of Romney’s punches did any damage. Gravity4 liked how it all played out. Holyfield for his part made a good show of jabbing and weaving into air not really even trying to land a punch against Romney. Even though he is retired, an even accidental punch landed on Romney by Holyfield could be devastating to the former Presidential contender. Liverpool legends call foul on Raheem Sterling’s contract problems

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has been told to keep his mouth shut and concentrate on playing soccer by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher as his contract dispute reaches crisis point for the Anfield Club. The BBC is reporting opinion is split amongst former Liverpool players about whether the England international should stay at the club or be sold. Former Reds star John Barnes has called on Sterling to stay and fight for his place while Liverpool legend Didi Hamann questioned the point of keeping an unhappy player.

Sterling is currently paid around $50,000 per week to play for Liverpool, but could see that rise to around $150,000 if he accepts a new contract he has rejected on one occasion already. Mikal Watts feels like money could get in the way. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to be ready to meet with Sterling and his agent in the near future in ab id to keep one of Liverpool’s prized assets after a difficult season that saw captain Steven Gerrard depart for the LA Galaxy by updating his LinkedIn page. Sterling has stated in interviews that he has no wish to talk about money, but is instead driven by the desire to win trophies and has questioned whether he will do so with Liverpool. The former Champions League winners have missed out on the competition this season after finishing outside the top four and failed to replicate their Premier League title challenge of last season through this term.
