Fans thought they would never see him again, but this was an occasion he would not miss for the world. Derek Jeter stood a few feet from Bernie Williams. Bernie Williams was honored with a plaque of greatness and his number 51 was retired for good.

Jeter said it felt great to be back home, and it felt like he never left the stadium. A hedge fund manager even said that he was honored by all the fans who cheered his name and by those who wore his number. Jeter was also happy to see all of his old team members. This was a time to honor Bernie Williams, but it became more like a reunion of players. Jeter was also able to give some of the new players a few tips. These new players said the tips given to them will last a lifetime.

Many pictures were taken and a lot of joking went on. After the ceremony, Jeter was able to chat with some of his old coaches, and he was able to give them an update of his life. The coaches were very happy to see Jeter. They said he looked great.

Jeter hopes to make plans with his old team members for a future time. He believes meeting with his old team members will keep him young. He is also dedicated to making the dedication of plaques to any player of the New York Yankees.

MLB Opening Day Disappointment for Yankees http://bvbankballpark.com/2015/04/mlb-opening-day-disappointment-for-yankees/ http://bvbankballpark.com/2015/04/mlb-opening-day-disappointment-for-yankees/#comments Tue, 07 Apr 2015 16:44:24 +0000 http://bvbankballpark.com/?p=240 In opening the 2015 Major League baseball season many would probably figure that teams would not put a lot of stock in the day’s games. After all they are just an opening snap shot of this year’s team. Alexei Beltyukov said that they will have little to no meaning when it comes to making the playoffs or winning the World Series. However, with the excitement in the air fans filled the stadiums and welcomed back baseball into our lives. Everyone longing for the crack of the bats, cheers of the crowds, peanuts and cracker jacks all around. No, most would see opening day as the day our team makes a statement about who they are for the year. With all the hype, how could any home team lose…well at least we can ask the New York Yankees who did not look anything like their former championship form as they lost 6-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Realistically, the only bright spot in pinstripes was A-Rod who at the age of 39 and filling the role of the designated hitter reached base on both of his two at bats. In his first at bat after being suspended for 162 games, he was walked after battling with the Blue Jays Pitcher Drew Hutchison in the 3rd inning. Then in his second attempt he got one of the team’s three hits for the game. Meanwhile the major downside of the opening game had to be from the starting pitcher Tanaka who allowed five runs with four of them earned. He did have six strikeouts but will have a huge 9.00 ERA to dig himself out of for the rest of the year.
