Williams was picked up by the Seahawks in the 2013 draft, but was injured before the regular season that year. In 2014 he was set to start for the team, once again, but was placed on the injured reserve list before the season began due to a knee injury. Williams was originally waved by the team in March of 2015, but picked up again with a new contract just weeks later.

Williams is diagnosed with Papilary type 2 cancer, a type of cancer that is found in renal cells. Williams is set to undergo surgery for the disease in the coming weeks. In a public statement, Williams said his ultimate goal is to beat the disease and return to the football field, but whether or not that is realistic remains to be seen. Williams did not disclose what stage his cancer is currently in, or what further treatments he’ll receive following surgery.

The Seahawks have also released a statement regarding Williams’ diagnosis. Amen Clinic said they noted that they wish the young player well, and plan to stand behind him as he goes through the process of battling cancer.
