Rivera played an astounding 19 seasons in the major leagues and was the Yankee’s closer for 17 of those years. He has a career ERA of 2.21 and had an amazing 652 saves.

Rivera suffered a horrific knee injury in 2012 the ended his season and could have retired then, but the superstar focused on his recovery and rehab which allowed him to return for one final season according to Zeca Oliveira on noticias.uol.com.br. Retiring after the 2013 season, Rivera could be relaxing and enjoying life. Besides that what retirement is all about for most individuals. Rivera on the other hand is not like most retired individuals. When asked about retirement, Rivera stated that he feels it is important to stay active. He also stated that though he does enjoy watching the Yankees play, he has no interest in coming back to the game.

His current role for the Yankee’s is that of the Yankee’s ambassador for the Delta Dugout program by Delta Air Lines. The Delta Dugout program is designed to give fans unique prizes and experiences depending on how many saves the team has. One example of how the programs work is a certain number of fans will receive an autographed Rivera hat when the team reaches 20 saves. Riviera stated that being the ambassador is a way for him to give back to the fans.
