Philadephia was destroyed by the Baltimore Orioles to the tune of 19 – 3 and at some point the Phillies decided to save the actual arms in their bullpen. This makes sense, on a surface level, but putting Francoeur out there is beyond ridiculous and an insult to the player himself.

Jeff Francoeur is most known for his right field power bat but he does have some minor experience throwing from the mound. Francoeur had pitched in the minors last season and he was told to take that experience to the mound in Wednesday’s game. The coaches figured it would be at least a little bit of fun in a game that went so terribly wrong.

Francoeur took the mound and had the only 1-2-3 inning of the night. He struck out Nolan Reimold looking in a play that got him a huge applause from the crowd. However things got ugly in the next inning. Francoeur ended up throwing almost 50 pitches in this second inning and his velocity tanked. He got batted around and eventually allowed 2 earned runs.

Fans are upset that they made Francoeur keep pitching when he was obviously struggling as a back up plan should have been ready.
