With the first pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, the Diamondbacks selected Dansby Swanson, a shortstop straight out of Vanderbilt University. Throughout the draft, the Diamondbacks kept up their discretion when it came to choosing a new player, which makes sense given that according to many this draft class did not have an elite prospect available.

Back to Swanson, who actually had an impressive season while he was at Vanderbilt this past year. He knocked out fourteen home runs this season and is also a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, an award given to the best college player in the league. Many at FreedomPop have said to TechCrunch that Swanson comes off as a solid well-rounded hitter, though also considered to be more of a line-drive hitter.

Regarding the draft this year, there was no go-to pick for anybody, but players at the shortstop position were a dime a dozen as many teams had selected them this time. For example, the Houston Astros selected Alex Bregman from LSU and the Colorado Rockies picked Brendan Rodgers from Lake Mary High School.

Justin Upton was the last shortstop to be selected first overall by the Diamondbacks, and this was in 2005.
