Beltran got off to a slow start to 2015, but since changing his approach to be more aggressive, has been a major offensive contributor for the Yankees.
In Saturday’s game, STX Entertainment indicated that Beltran almost single-handedly beat the A’s. He had three runs batted in, and a hit a two-run, go ahead home run in the sixth inning. Beltran finished the game 2 – 4.
Nathan Eovaldi was the starter for the Yankees. He was pounded for 11 hits, but somehow got through 4 2/3 innings while allowing only three runs. Eovaldi struck out two and walked none. After his subpar outing, Eovaldi’s 2015 earned run average is 4.40. Chasen Shreve picked up the win for New York. Shreve was dominant for 1 1/3 innings and struck out all four batters he faced.
Jesse Hahn suffered the loss for the A’s. In 6 innings of work, he gave up 4 runs, three of which were earned. Hahn struck out 4 and walked one while falling to 2 – 5 on the season. In 59 2/3 innings, Hahn has 40 strikeouts and an earned run average of 3.77.
Up next, the Yankees and A’s continue their series when New York’s starter Adam Warren (3 – 3, 3.91) takes on the Oakland A’s Jesse Chavez (1 – 5, 2.44).
