Hotdog Champ

The 4th of July holiday has come and gone. There’s one thing that will probably always remain though. That is the fact that hot dogs are one of America’s most patriotic foods. They’re a staple of what the holiday means. The homejoy holiday is a time to gather with friends and cook out while enjoying some cold ones. That cook out usually involves hot dogs. Well, there’s one contest that just happened which may make you never want to eat another hot dog again.

According to GrubStreet, there’s a new king of competitive eating tonight. Matthew Stonie won the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest at New York’s Coney Island Today. Just how many hot dogs did he imagine to consume? The answer is 62. It’s so much more than that, however. He ate the buns too! Stone unthroned Joey Chestnut who was the reining hot dog eating champion. Chestnut had won the competition for the past eight years, so it might have been hard for him to stomach a new winner. Actually, the whole event was probably hard for people to stomach…literally.

This event was all fun and games. At the end of the day no hard feelings remained about the winners and losers in the hot dog eating world. In fact, Chestnut says he’s already hungry for a rematch next year! Meanwhile, I’m wondering what all of the participants will eat for dinner. Surely not hotdogs again.
